Information from the meeting of the Payment System Council, held on 23 March 2006 The Payment System Council, an advisory and consultative body for the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland held its meeting on 23 March 2006.
The Council meeting was chaired by Mr. Krzysztof Rybiński, Chairman of the Council, Deputy President of the NBP.
The Payment System Council: - discussed the issues related to the fees for cross-border payments as charged by the Polish banks,
- acknowledged the information from the NBP concerning the selected elements of the Polish payment system against the background of payment systems of other Member States of the European Union,
- discussed the need for the introduction of the statutory supervision of the NBP over the securities settlement systems in Poland,
- issued a positive opinion on the assessment of the functioning of the Polish payment system in the second half of the year 2005, prepared by the Payment Systems Department of the NBP.
Furthermore, the Council adopted two documents: Report on the Activity of the Payment System Council in 2005 and the Annual Work Plan of the Payment System Council in 2006.
The Council has decided that its next meeting will be held in June 2006.
