At the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held in Kiev, Ms Krystyna Gawlikowska-Hueckel was elected director representing Poland, Bulgaria and Albania on the EBRD Board. When choosing Poland's next representative at the EBRD the President of the NBP took into account among others the following criteria: - political neutrality, i.e. no involvement in current political activities,
- ability to represent Poland's interests effectively,
- sufficient knowledge of English to represent Poland's interests appropriately in discussions at the EBRD.
Krystyna Gawlikowska-Hueckel holds the Degree of Habilitation that she was awarded after the PhD in economics. She specializes in international economics, regional economy and European integration. She is professor at the University of Gdańsk (European Integration Economics Department) and Leon Koźmiński Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management (European Studies Department). She was born in 1947. In 1970: graduated from the Economics Department at the University of Gdańsk. In 1973: received her PhD in economics at the University of Gdańsk. Since 1993: member of Speakers Team Europe. In 1997: Supervisory Board member of the National Board of European Integration at the Office of the Committee for European Integration. In 1999-2001: member of the College of the Supreme Chamber of Control. From 2001: Supervisory Board member at Bank BPH. In 2002 Krystyna Gawlikowska-Hueckel presented a habilitation thesis entitled "Regional development processes in the European Union: convergence or polarization" that was awarded the prize of the Minister of Education and Sport. She is co-author (with Anna Głębocka-Zielińska) of the book entitled "European integration: from a single market to monetary union" and author of over 100 other scientific publications. |
