Meeting of the Representatives of EU-10 + Croatia concerning cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

Date: 29-04-2013

On 26 April 2013 the representatives of the EU-10 + Croatia countries met in Warsaw to discuss the issues related to their cooperation with the EBRD. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of EBRD Management, including EBRD Acting Vice-President Hans-Peter Lankes. The Warsaw meeting was hosted by the National Bank of Poland (NBP President is the EBRD Governor for Poland).

In its current format, the meeting has been held yearly since 2009, providing a platform for the discussion – among experts – of the most vital topics covered by EBRD activities. The principal issues discussed at the meeting were:

  • Macroeconomic outlook for the Central and East European countries;
  • EBRD’s engagement in EU-10 and Croatia;
  • Principles for the EBRD graduation and post-graduation processes.

The meeting concluded with a joint communiqué (see enclosure), which will be submitted to the EBRD Management. The communiqué draws attention to the sustained risks for the economic situation of the region and positively assesses the draft EBRD document laying down proposed activities of the EBRD towards the countries that intend to graduate (i.e. exit the group of countries in which EBRD is financially engaged in project implementation). At the same time, it was noted that the decision to graduate rests with each respective country of operations.
