Current Account Sees Surplus in April 2013

NBP data: According to the NBP preliminary data, Polish exports stood at nearly EUR 13.3bn in April, i.e. they rose by 12.3 % y/y. The surplus in the current account reached nearly EUR 0.5 bn.

Preliminary data on Poland’s balance of payments in April 2013, released by the NBP on 17 June 2013, show goods exports of nearly EUR 13.3bn, i.e. up by 12.3% on a year ago, and imports of nearly EUR 12.7bn , i.e. up by 3.6% y/y. The surplus of trade in goods combined with a typically positive balance of trade in services (of over EUR 0.5bn) and of current transfers (c. EUR 0.8bn), helped the current account balance move into positive territories and reach EUR 0.5bn. The income balance remained negative (nearly EUR 1.5bn).

As regards the EU transfers, Poland posted inflows of more than EUR 1.0bn in April 2013, whereas the contribution paid by Poland amounted to EUR 329m.

April saw a negative balance of foreign investments in Poland, most of all due to the repayment of loans by enterprises. The balance of foreign direct investment in Poland remained positive.
