Poland’s reserve assets in September 2014

NBP data: As at the end of September 2014, Poland’s official reserve assets managed by NBP stood at EUR 80.3bn, i.e. 101.7bn in US dollar terms.
On 7 October 2014, Narodowy Bank Polski posted its monthly release on the country’s official reserve asset holdings. According to the release, at the end of September 2014 these amounted to EUR 80.3bn and were up by EUR 2.9bn on the previous month’s figure. In US dollar terms, Poland’s foreign exchange reserves decreased by 0.2bn to 101.7bn at the end of September.
In managing foreign exchange reserves Narodowy Bank Polski, while striving to maximize the return on the assets, gives priority to their safe investment and a requisite level of liquidity. NBP invests the funds in typical instruments used by central banks. The bulk of the reserves is invested in Treasury securities and certain amounts are held as securities issued by international institutions and government agencies. A fraction of the reserves is kept in the form of term deposits at banks with a high credit standing, and in gold.
