Poland’s Balance of Payments in July 2016

NBP data: In July 2016, the current account of the balance of payments posted a surplus in the balance of services (PLN 4.0bn) and a deficit in the primary income account (PLN 5.4bn), trade in goods (PLN 1.4bn) and secondary income account (PLN 0.7bn). The balance of the combined current and capital accounts was negative and amounted to PLN 3.6bn.
Preliminary data on Poland’s balance of payments released on 13 September 2016 show a deficit of PLN 3.5bn on the current account. In the corresponding month of 2015, it was also negative and amounted to PLN 4.9bn.
Exports of goods amounted to PLN 59.4bn and were PLN 0.5bn (0.8%) higher than a year earlier. Imports of goods dwindled by PLN 1.2bn (1.9%) to PLN 60.8bn. As a result, the balance of trade in goods was negative and stood at PLN 1.4bn. In July 2015, it was also negative and amounted to PLN 3.0bn.
Typically, the services balance was positive at PLN 4.0bn. Credits on exports of services were PLN 15.1bn and represented a PLN 0.6 (3.8%) increase on the July 2015 figure. Debits amounted to PLN 11.1bn, having grown by PLN 0.1bn (0.6%) as compared with the corresponding month of 2015.
The primary income balance was negative at PLN 5.4bn. In the corresponding month of 2015, it was also negative and stood at PLN 5.7bn. The negative income balance resulted from the negative balance of investment income (PLN 7.4bn).
