Money supply in September 2016

In September 2016, the M3 money supply rose by PLN 4.8bn. The growth was mainly driven by an increase of banks’ liabilities towards enterprises.
According to preliminary data released by NBP on 14 October 2016, in September 2016 the M3 aggregate, which shows the total money supply, amounted to PLN 1,209.4bn at the end of the month, and was PLN 4.8bn higher than at the end of August 2016.
In September 2016, the highest increase was recorded in corporate deposits – by PLN 3.6bn (i.e. 1.5%) to the level of PLN 245.6bn. Liabilities towards households rose by PLN 0.6bn or 0.1% to PLN 680.0bn, and the value of cash in circulation (excluding vault cash) rose by PLN 0.7bn or 0.4% to PLN 165.5bn.
On the side of counterparts to broad money growth, the biggest change was registered in corporate debt which grew by PLN 4.2bn (i.e. 1.2%) to reach PLN 341.8bn. Household debt went up by PLN 2.5bn (or 0.4%) to PLN 656.2bn. The net debt of the central government sector also increased ‒ by PLN 1.7bn to PLN 216.9bn.
