Poland’s reserve assets in December 2015

NBP data: At the end of December 2015, Poland’s official reserve assets, managed by Narodowy Bank Polski, stood at EUR 86.9bn or USD 94.9bn in US dollar terms.
On 7 January 2016, NBP released data on the country’s official reserve asset holdings. According to the release, these amounted to EUR 86.9bn as at the end of December 2015, i.e. EUR 5.8bn less than at the end of November. In US dollar terms, Poland’s foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 94.9bn, representing a decrease of USD 3.1bn as compared with the previous month’s figure.
In managing foreign exchange reserves, Narodowy Bank Polski – while striving to maximize the return on the assets – gives priority to their safe investment and the requisite level of liquidity. NBP invests in typical instruments used by central banks. The bulk of the reserves is invested in Treasury securities and certain amounts are held as securities issued by international institutions and government agencies. A fraction of the reserves is maintained in the form of term deposits at banks with a high credit standing and in gold.
