Poland’s reserve assets in February 2016

NBP data: At the end of February 2016, Poland’s official reserve assets, managed by Narodowy Bank Polski, stood at EUR 90.6bn or USD 98.9bn in US dollar terms.
On 7 March 2016, NBP released data on the country’s official reserve asset holdings. According to the release, these amounted to EUR 90.6bn as at the end of February 2016, i.e. EUR 0.9bn lower than at the end of January. In US dollar terms, Poland’s foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 98.9bn, representing a decrease of USD 0.8bn as compared with the previous month’s figure.
In managing foreign exchange reserves, Narodowy Bank Polski – while striving to maximize the return on the assets – gives priority to their safe investment and the requisite level of liquidity. NBP invests the reserves in typical instruments used by central banks. The bulk of the reserves is invested in Treasury securities and certain amounts are held as securities issued by international institutions and government agencies. A fraction of the reserves is maintained in the form of term deposits at banks with a high credit standing and in gold.
