Money supply in December 2016

December 2016 saw a rise in M3 money supply by PLN 25.9 billion. This was driven mainly by an increase in the level of household and corporate deposits.
According to preliminary data on money supply released by Narodowy Bank Polski on 13 January 2017, in December the M3 aggregate, which reflects the total money supply, amounted to PLN 1.3 billion at the end of the month and was PLN 25.9 billion higher than at the end of November 2016.
In December 2016, the largest increase in deposits was in the corporate sector – by PLN 13.6 billion (i.e. 5.3%) to the level of PLN 268.8 billion. The value of deposits and other liabilities towards the household sector rose by PLN 10.4 billion (i.e. 1.5%) to the level of PLN 704.9 billion. The value of cash in circulation (excluding vault cash) rose by PLN 3.9 billion (i.e. 2.3%) to PLN 174.4 billion.
The value of household debt rose by PLN 0.2 billion to PLN 665.1 billion. Claims on the corporate sector decreased by PLN 6.5 billion to PLN 340.0 billion, while the net debt of the sector of central government institutions increased by PLN 23.9 billion (i.e. 10.1%) to PLN 259.5 billion.
