Poland’s balance of payments in June 2019

NBP data: In June 2019, the current account of the balance of payments posted a surplus in the services account (PLN 9.0bn) and deficits on the primary income account (PLN 8.1bn), the secondary income account (PLN 0.4bn) and the trade in goods account (PLN 0.3bn). The balance of the combined current and capital accounts was positive at PLN 4.1bn.
Preliminary data on Poland’s balance of payments in June 2019, published by NBP on 13 August 2019, show a surplus of PLN 0.1bn on the country’s current account. In the corresponding month of 2018, the balance was also positive and stood at PLN 0.8bn.
Exports of goods amounted to PLN 77.1bn and were PLN 2.0bn (i.e. 2.5%) lower than in the corresponding month of 2018. Imports of goods declined by PLN 3.2bn (i.e. 4.0%) to reach PLN 77.4bn. The deficit in trade in goods amounted to PLN 0.3bn.
Typically, the services account was in surplus, amounting to PLN 9.0bn. Exports of services stood at PLN 21.8bn, representing an increase of PLN 0.5bn (i.e. 2.2%) on the June 2018 figure. Imports of services amounted to PLN 12.8bn and were at a level similar to that of June 2018 (an increase by 0.3%).
The balance of the primary income account was negative at PLN 8.1bn and deteriorated in relation to the corresponding month of 2018 by PLN 2.1bn. The balance of this account was determined by the negative balance of the investment account (of PLN 7.4bn).
