Money supply in December 2018

December 2018 saw an increase of PLN 36.4 billion in M3 money supply. The rise was mainly caused by an increase in deposits and other liabilities of the banks towards the household sector.
According to data on money supply released by Narodowy Bank Polski on 23 January 2018, at the end of December the M3 aggregate, which reflects the total money supply, amounted to PLN 1,446.1 billion and was PLN 36.4 billion higher than at the end of November 2018.
In December 2018 the stock of deposits and other liabilities of households, which are included in the M3 money supply, increased by PLN 15.6 billion (i.e. 2.0%) to PLN 806.1 billion. Local government deposits and other liabilities decreased by PLN 2.5 billion (i.e. 7.1%) to PLN 32.3 billion. Deposits and other liabilities of the corporate sector increased – by PLN 9.9 billion (i.e. 3.6%) to PLN 287.3 billion.
The stock of household debt rose by PLN 2.6 billion (i.e. 0.4%) to PLN 723.4 billion. Claims on the corporate sector rose by PLN 0.9 billion to PLN 384.1 billion, while the net debt of the sector of central government institutions increased by PLN 24.7 billion (i.e. 9.8%) to PLN 275.7 billion.
