Money supply in May 2020

In May 2020, the M3 money supply increased by PLN 44.8bn. The increase was mostly driven by a rise in deposits and other claims on non-financial enterprises and households.
According to data released by Narodowy Bank Polski on 23 June 2020, the M3 aggregate, reflecting the total supply of money, amounted to PLN 1,717.9bn at the end of May 2020, i.e. PLN 44.8bn more than at the end of April 2020.
In May 2020, the stock of household deposits and other claims on households which are included in the M3 aggregate increased by PLN 16.1bn, i.e. 1.8%, and amounted to PLN 932.8bn. Deposits and other claims on other financial institutions decreased by PLN 9.1bn, i.e. 11.9%, to PLN 67.5bn. The value of corporate deposits and other claims of corporates increased by PLN 23.7bn, i.e. 7.3%, to PLN 349.8bn, and in the local government sector it increased by PLN 4.2bn, i.e. 10.1%, to PLN 45.9bn.
Household debt declined by PLN 4.1bn, i.e. 0.5%, to PLN 778.4bn. The stock of banks’ claims on enterprises decreased by PLN 9.4bn, i.e. 2.3%, to PLN 392.3bn, and the net debt of central government entities decreased by PLN 2.7bn, i.e. 0.7%, to PLN 365.4bn.
