Press Release 16 March 2001 - At the meeting on March 16th, 2001, the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland positively reviewed applications for the extension of foreign exchange authorizations submitted by seven cooperative banks associated with Gospodarczy Bank Poludniowo-Zachodni S.A. in Wroclaw.
In two cases, the recommendation of the Management Board of the NBP was referred to the extension of banks' foreign exchange authorizations for the right to perform the defined foreign exchange activities.
In four cases, the extension of banks' authorizations was based on authorizing them to accept and make payments denominated in the domestic currency in the foreign exchange transactions effected in Poland.
The seventh bank applied for the foreign exchange authorization for the first time. The Management Board of the NBP authorized the bank to perform the defined foreign exchange activities in the domestic currency. - The Management Board of the NBP accepted the information on cooperation between the National Bank of Poland and the Polish Banks Association in performing standardization and normalization tasks and other interbank undertakings in the second half of 2000.
These activities were connected with the introduction into the Polish banking system the organizational, technical and legal solutions, inter alia, in the area of consumer protection, development of electronic banking and development of the electronic system of interbank settlements that result from the EU directives, recommendations and other standards applied in the EU member countries.
As the most essential there should be considered the arrangements concerning the standardization of bank account numbers and forms for customer transfer/cash payment.
The Management Board of the NBP ordered to start the work aimed at the adoption of regulations enabling the obligatory introduction of the adopted standards. |
