| Leszek Balcerowicz at the Munich Economic Summit

Tomorrow, i.e. on June 7, 2002, Leszek Balcerowicz will start a visit to Munich where he will participate in the Munich Economic Summit "Europe after Enlargement" organized by the Herbert Quant Foundation and CESifo. On the second day of the Summit, the President of the National Bank of Poland will deliver a speech entitled "The Way to the Economic and Monetary Union from a Candidate Country's Perspective".
Leszek Balcerowicz, President of the National Bank of Poland, will participate in the Munich Economic Summit that starts tomorrow in Germany, the main motto of which will be "Europe after Enlargement".
The Summit will be opened by the Prime Minister of Bavaria - Edmund Stoiber. The participants of the Summit will discuss, inter alia, the principles of conducting politics in enlarged Europe and challenges facing the European Union due to the admission of new members. The first day of the Summit will be ended by a formal dinner given by the Prime Minister of Bavaria to the honor of the participants.
The second day of the meeting will start with the discussion on innovations and technological development of Europe. The President of the National Bank of Poland will deliver a speech during the session entitled "Euro in the currency snake? Economic and Monetary Union in Enlarged Europe". The topic of the speech by Leszek Balcerowicz will be "The Way to the Economic and Monetary Union from a Candidate Country's Perspective". Besides the President of the National Bank of Poland, Jean-Claude Trichet, the Governor of Banque de France, and Ernst Welteke, the President of Deutsche Bundesbank will also deliver the speeches.
The participation in the Summit has been announced, inter alia, by: Valdas Adamkus - the President of Lithuania, Gunter Verheugen and Erkki Liikanen - members of the European Commission, Janez Drnovsek - Prime Minister of Slovenia and John Major - former Prime Minister of Great Britain.
The Summit will end on Saturday, June 8, 2002.
